Six Degrees Wins Best Small Label at NARM.
At the recent NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers) convention in Orlando, Florida, Six Degrees Records won "Best Small Label" award from a committee of their peers in the retail world who nominate companies for excellence in various categories. This prestigious award comes soon after this San Francisco based independent label started a short four years ago. Others nominated in the category were Cleopatra and Alligator. As a national association of record merchants and labels, the 1,100 member group has been active in addressing the issues of recorded entertainment for over 40 years. Of the award, label president Pat Berry says, "We are honored and excited to get this kind of recognition so early in our label's life. We've all been working really hard and this kind of acknowledgement from the industry is very gratifying."
Six Degrees Records produces and markets accessible, genre-bending records that explore world music traditions, modern dance grooves, electronic music, and overlooked pop gems. Amongst the recent releases are Bebel Gilberto's Tanto Tempo, King Britt presents Sylk 130 Re-Members Only, and the upcoming Michael Franti & Spearhead release Stay Human and former founding member of Nine Inch Nails Chris Vrenna's Tweaker project. The label's catchphrase, "everything is closer than you think," is a reflection of Six Degrees' commitment to different styles of music that appeal to a curious and increasingly sizable audience. Six Degrees is distributed by Ryko Distribution in the U.S. and Outside Music in Canada.
